We recently took Kate on an Easter Egg hunt, having never been to one of these ourselves. We quickly realized this wasn't such a great plan because there were HUNDREDS of kids there! And it turns out, there's very little hunting that takes place. The actually scatter tons of plastic Easter eggs all over several baseball fields and just let the kids loose to get as many as they can. I was thinking it was going to be more of a challenge than that...so much for the "hunting" part of it! My brother and sister in law brought their little 2 year old, William, and we met them there. We decided to keep Kate out of the madness and just wait and watch. Poor William only managed to pick up ONE egg, although he wasn't too upset about it because he is, after all, only 2. The rest of the eggs were picked up by older, more aggressive children who knew what they were doing.
What did Kate do during this time? Why she emptied out her diaper bag of course. She may not have any idea that Easter eggs are fun to collect and empty of their candy (that she can't eat anyway), but she KNOWS her mommy always has goodies packed in her diaper bag. I've decided that once she does know and understand what happens at an Easter Egg hunt, we'll just have our own little one with friends and neighbors. Much easier, and less stressful. And also more respectful - I was shocked the number of parents I heard talking strategy with their little ones, so they could maximize the number of eggs they received so they'd have more than the others. Definitely not the lesson we want to be passing on to Kate, especially given the REAL reason for celebrating Easter - the death and resurrection of Jesus. Let's save the selfishness for another time and place, or avoid it as much as we can.
On another side of things, Kate currently has 6 or 8 teeth coming in on top. Toothless no more! (she has 2 teeth on the bottom, but it's been over 6 months since they arrived). With new teeth come ear infections...we are currently on the 2nd round of antibiotics because the first round didn't kick it out of her left ear. Seems to be going well this time, and we are sleeping 11-12 hours each night once again. What a blessing!
